Privacy notice

Summary

This privacy notice explains what data we may hold about you, why we do this, and how we store and use it. It is effective as of May 25, 2018, when the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect.

As well as complying with the GDRP, more broadly we aim at all times to handle personal data in a way that balances our legitimate interests as a business with individuals’ right to privacy.

What is EM?

EM is a financial, corporate and digital communications agency working for clients primarily in emerging markets worldwide. Our UK registered company number is 8633300.

EM is a “data controller” in respect of the personal information that it collects and stores.

 

What personal information do we hold and how do we store it?

We only collect basic data such as name, email address, phone number, relevant social media accounts, job title, name of employer and date of birth. We collect this information by means including searches on social media and the use of databases provided by third parties on a commercial basis.

EM has subscriptions to databases supplied by Roxhill Media and Telum Media Group PTE Ltd, both of which we believe to be fully GDPR-compliant. You can read their respective privacy notices here:

We store all our data securely using GDPR-compliant third-party services (Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Google Drive)

 

Why may we have data about you?

We collect, store and process personal information for our legitimate interest in running a financial, corporate and digital communications agency. Our work as communications agency serves the interests of our clients who want to communicate with journalists and investment professionals and other relevant parties. It also serves the interests of media and investment professionals and other relevant parties who need information about and access to our clients.

We only use data about individuals in ways that would be reasonably expected of a responsible financial, corporate and digital communications agency. We do not use data about individuals in ways that they would consider intrusive or cause them harm.

 

Do we share personal data?

We may occasionally share data such as contact details with third parties, primarily our clients. In such cases we always take care to ensure that your rights as an individual are properly observed and not infringed.

 

How long do we store personal data?

We aim to ensure that all the personal data we hold is up to date and relevant at all times. We review and update our contact lists regularly, but at least once every three months. We delete personal data that has become obsolete as soon as we become aware of this, and should a data subject (i.e., a person whose data we hold) ask us.

 

What are your rights regarding the personal data we hold?

You can ask us at any time:

  • To provide you with copies of personal information that we hold about you
  • To remove any personal data we hold about you from our databases
  • To amend all or some the data that we hold about you
  • To opt out of receiving communications from us on behalf of our clients

If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are not processing your personal information accordance with the law you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office https://ico.org.uk/ or seek a remedy through local courts if you believe your rights have been breached.
